Message From Kevin, Founder of NW Vitality Center

Dear Friend,

I am so honored to welcome you to Northwest Vitality. Over the past seven years it has been my sincere pleasure to be a doctor to so many wonderful people. Being part of the amazing success stories here has been such a blessing. Thank you all for that!

My wife and I have long talked about downsizing our lives and moving somewhere tropical someday. And now, with baby number four due in November and after years of careful consideration we've decided to move to the Big Island of Hawaii to start to the next chapter of our lives. It's been an honor and a privilege taking care of our clients these past few years. So many of you are dear friends and more like family members than merely patients to me, which made this a difficult decision. I'll miss you all!

After a long search I found a doctor I believe will be a perfect fit with Amber and the rest of our team to keep leading you in your journey back to ideal health. His name is Dr Nico Montecalvo, DC. He comes highly qualified and shares the same lifelong passion for fitness and wellness that I do.

Dr Nico will also bring to the table more expertise in lab testing, as he has additional training and a Master's Degree in Functional Medicine. I've had the pleasure of getting to know Dr Nico these last few months and I know you're going to like him! He's a great doctor with a great heart and will be a perfect fit for our clinic.

I hope I was able to thank as many of you as possible in person during my last few weeks here at NW Vitality! For those that I missed, I am deeply sorry, but please know that I will look back on all of you and be so grateful to have met each and every one of you. I trust Dr Nico and Amber with each of your futures with NW Vitality. Of course I will always remain connected here... the team and I at Northwest Vitality are like family!

Thank you again for letting me serve you, I will miss each of you and wish you the best in your journey to optimal health!

For those new to NW Vitality, please read on to learn more about why I founded NW Vitality. This practice is the culmination of a dream for me, and my sincere hope is that your time here will be a life changing experience!

I have known from an early age that I belonged in the wellness industry, and started my studies in health and fitness at a very young age. My first degree, from Texas State University, was in Exercise Physiology in 1992.  I managed a health club and had a personal fitness business before enrolling in Parker College of Chiropractic in 1997.  Everything fell right into place after my 2000 graduation.  By 2005 I had my second successful practice in the Texas Hill Country just outside of Austin.  I had married my dream girl (my wife, Crystal) and I was on top of the world.  We were serving a lot of people.  We were changing lives.  And I, at the age of 35, was in the best shape of my life.  I ran about 40 miles a week, and was also lifting weights.

Then something devastating happened.  Something so shocking that my friends and family couldn’t believe it and to this day can hardly wrap their heads around it.  Around September of 2005 I lost my health and nearly everything that I had worked for my entire life! It’s hard to believe, but true- one week I could bench press 300 pounds and run 10-12 miles a day in the Texas heat, and the next week I could barely walk.  Suddenly, almost overnight I developed debilitating fatigue, raging insomnia and multiple severe food reactions.  Things started bad and quickly got worse as I developed full blown Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. I spent most of my free time, and all of my money, going from doctor to doctor to doctor, undergoing test after test after test.  I visited medical doctors, naturopaths, chiropractors, nutrition experts, acupuncturists, and everyone in-between.

The change in my health was so dramatic and my symptoms so severe that I went to the first medical doctor fully expecting to find out I had a serious autoimmune disease or even cancer.  But to my absolute shock and dismay the medical doctor very casually told me I was normal!  All of my labs were within range and I was totally fine. They sent me on my way with a short pep talk about taking it easy for a few days.  I coaxed the next doc to dig a little deeper, and we ran more blood work, urine tests, and a complete thyroid panel.  Again everything came back normal.  The doctor knew how bad I was feeling and almost apologetically offered me some depression meds and sleeping pills.

I was devastated, and at that point I would have been happier being diagnosed with cancer than having the doctor say I was normal.  I felt like I was dying!  I suffered near constant pain, brain fog, and debilitating fatigue.  I couldn’t eat because the food reactions made it worse, I couldn’t sleep, and sitting down or lying on the couch didn’t help much, either.  It quickly became apparent I would no longer be able to work in, or even manage, my business.  In October of 2006 I sold my practice and began  a full-time intensive search for a cutting edge doctor, technique or expert who could get me well and get my life back!  I consulted with doctors of all types.  I read everything I could get my hands on about Chronic Fatigue and other hard to treat chronic conditions.  I tried every detox and cleansing technique known to man- literally!  I learned quite a bit from each doctor I visited, and most of the protocols I tried helped me a little bit.  But still, a year later I could barely walk around the block without sitting on the curb to rest, and I still rarely slept.

Finally, in 2007 I learned about two different doctors who were getting remarkable results with Chronic Fatigue and difficult cases of all types.  One doctor was a functional medicine doctor and chiropractic neurologist in Wisconsin named Dr. Mike Johnson.  He wrote the book What to Do When the Medications Don’t Work.  I owe a great debt of gratitude to Dr. Johnson for all he has taught me about how to properly test and analyze blood, urine, and more. His work focuses on more specific tests, as well as a more precise range of functionality- and his methods  get the answers that reliably get to the root of the problem.  He also taught me how to apply nutritional protocols that actually work and can bring a really sick person all the way back, so to speak. Through Dr. Johnson’s protocols I learned that my blood work was anything but normal and that I did in fact have a severe autoimmune condition brought on by a chronic parasite infestation and Stage IV Adrenal Fatigue.

The other doctor who really brought me back from the brink when nothing else worked was Dr. Lester Bryman.  A well-known nutritionist in Clearwater, Florida, Dr. Bryman crafted and perfected an applied kinesiology (muscle testing) technique called Nutrition Response Testing over the course of 50 years.  I was so impressed with what his nutrition protocols did for me that I ended up studying intensely with him for six months and graduated from his Advanced Clinical Training program.  His techniques are still at the core of what we do and help me unlock even the most debilitating and stubborn cases every day I practice.

So back to my story. Did I truly have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, a condition that is hard to diagnose and treat? In truth, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is often a multi-layered combination of conditions, which often pile up because the immune system is so stressed. In my case, I suffered from Mercury toxicity, which led to parasites, food allergies, leaky gut syndrome, neurotransmitter imbalances, and an auto-immune condition attacking my thyroid and adrenal fatigue. In my best estimate, I spent well over $100,000 getting my health back, and was robbed of far more value in lost wages, relationships, life experiences, and plain old fun than you could put a price tag on.  Still… As I’ve come through the fire I can only be grateful for the profound inner strength I now have, and the most valuable clinical experience a doctor could ever get.

So what does all of this mean for you? It means that if you or a loved one are suffering from a chronic health condition, you are absolutely in the right place at this very moment! It means that you have found a doctor who sincerely cares and is profoundly motivated in a deep way to get you totally well.  If you are serious about getting well, if you are ready to make the commitment to yourself to change the course of your life, this is the place! This is where you belong.  My sincere hope is that you’ll give us the chance to help you.

From the start, I knew Northwest Vitality was going to be the place where even the sickest of the sick could come to get real answers in a caring environment.  I have experienced medical care at all levels, from the alternative practitioner in a one room office to the coordinated efforts of seven medical specialists at one of the premier hospitals in the United States.  There’s been some good doctors, but I’ve experienced the best that our country has to offer in medical care, and I wasn’t impressed.  So when I opened this clinic, I was careful to correct what I knew was missing from current medical care models:

  • Accurate diagnosis of underlying conditions
  • Treatments to eliminate these conditions, not just drugs to mask symptoms
  • Service-oriented care that respects the patient
  • Support and motivation for your journey to lasting health

At Northwest Vitality, we care for everyone from the patient who wants to lose 15 pounds to the people suffering with debilitating chronic conditions. No matter what your health issue is, our cutting edge techniques and services can help you attain your goals.  How?   By eliminating the true, hidden cause of your condition. We get rid of that and you’ll be surprised at how quickly and easily the pain and symptoms fade away.  And many of our patients effortlessly lose weight, too.  It’s amazing how the body works when the barriers to health are removed.

Hope to see you soon!
